Hazardous Communications - Online

Course Description
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Hazard Communication (Hazcom) Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200) also known as the "Right-To-Know" Rule went into effect in November 1985. The purpose of Hazcom is to communicate the hazards associated with workplace chemicals to all employees. The standard covers manufacturing and non-manufacturing establishments and requires:

Employees to be provided with information concerning hazardous chemicals through labels, material safety data sheets (MSDS), training and education, and a list of hazardous chemicals in each work area.

Every employer to assess the toxicity of chemicals they make, distribute, or use based on guidelines set forth in the rule.

Course Length: The length of the general the Hazard Communications Course (not including site-specific information) is approximately one (1) hour. With optional sections including a written test, and remediation, the course is approximately 1 hour, 30 minutes

Intended Audience
Employees who handle hazardous chemicals and/or materials in their workplace are required to receive hazard communication training. These materials can include, but are not limited to: solvents, cleaners, caustics, flammables, and toxic materials. This program is self-paced and has interactive exercises and quizzes to meet the OSHA training requirement under 29 CFR 1910.1200(h). However, your employer shall be required to orient you to the types of chemicals used and the location of MSDSs in your workplace.

Through the availability of interaction with the instructor via the internet, you will be able to discuss site-specific topics and/or other issues which relate to your particular involvement in Hazard Communication training. Your class's Courseroom has a forum where you may send questions for the course facilitator to answer.
