Course Description
This course trains individuals who are the first to arrive at an emergency to provide efficient and accurate pre-hospital care. Students assess patients for wounds to determine if trauma, shock, burns or closed airways are a problem and how to address those issues by dressing wounds, stabilizing the person or administering oxygen. They immobilize patients and address common emergency medical issues with basic treatments. This course includes hands-on, practical experience and is necessary to be eligible for emergency medical responder certification. The course is based on the Department of Transportation's (DOT) 2009 EMT-Basic curriculum. **ADDITIONAL HOURS HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THIS COURSE TO PARELLEL THE 2009 U.S. DOT AND STATE OF MN TRAINING REQUIREMENTS**
Intended Audience
Persons desiring to enter into the pre-hospital health care profession such as volunteers for rescue squads, first responder groups, EMS teams, special event EMS groups, etc.
